On April 18, 2021 at 1:48am, Patrol officers responded to the area of 25th Av & Medina Av. on shooting. Officers located an Mr. Jamaal Dixon inside a vehicle in the south alley of 25th Av. suffering from a gunshot wound. Medic 16 transported to Grant Hospital and was pronounced at 2:19am.

On Aug. 30, Marcus Payne and his brother followed and confronted individuals who they accused of breaking into his brother's vehicle That confrontation, which took place around 2 a.m. that day in the Short North area, took a lethal turn when Payne was shot. Payne, 27, died 12 days later on Sept. 11 at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in downtown Columbus, where his brother drove him for treatment after the shooting.
